WorkshopsThe SIBE Congress offers the opportunity to conduct a series of workshops, which has been scheduled to take place simultaneously on November 8th, from 15h to 16'30h p.m. (Spanish time zone). At present, the following workshops have been confirmed: Gamelan (Room to be confirmed) The gamelan is an indigenous instrumental ensemble from Bali (Indonesia), composed of bronze percussion instruments, gongs, and drums, played in a group. In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to discover and experiment with the fascinating sounds of the gamelan. A collective and truly unique musical experience. Led by Jordi Casadevall More information here. Janggu (Room to be confirmed) The janggu are the main instruments of traditional Korean culture, hourglass-shaped drums with a powerful sound that have been used for centuries. We invite you to experience a percussion session to immerse yourself in a different musical culture, learn new rhythmic patterns, and explore another way of making music. Led by Lluís Solsona More information here. Reactable (Room to be confirmed) Would you like to create music with an instrument of the future? In this workshop, we will explore the reactable, an electronic, intuitive, and collaborative musical instrument. Conceived and developed by a research team from the Pompeu Fabra University of Barcelona in 2007, the reactable reacts sonically when we place and move pieces on its luminous surface, and it has been used by artists such as Björk and Coldplay. Come and discover a new way of making music. Led by Joaquin Ródenas More information here. Improvisation on Catalan traditional music (Room to be confirmed) The workshop will address the so-called "sporogenous genres", defined as those that "invite the listener to move in the Catalan way". The rumba, ball pla, jota, and contrapàs, as well as all styles and related or derived genres (rebatuts, short, long, and medium sardanas, trans-, -noves…, fandangos and havaneres), are, according to Casellas, “the cornerstone of the repertoire that moves our land.” His main musical projects involve taking modern sounds and rhythms and dressing them in an archetypal Catalan musical structure. Participants are encouraged, where possible, to bring a percussion, melodic, or harmonic instrument. During the practical part of the workshop, participants will be invited to play and sing. The workshop will be conducted in Catalan. In case of any difficulty in understanding, individual support will be provided. Led by Marcel Casellas |
