On Saturday, 8 November, the SIBE Congress will offer, in collaboration with the Museu de la Música de Barcelona (L'Auditori) and the Office of Religious Affairs of the Barcelona City Council, the opportunity for attendees to take part in one of the most important rituals of the Gnawa community in Barcelona.

This activity is part of the Cicle Trànsits and will take place off the ESMUC premises, from 7:30 p.m. to 2:00 a.m. The ritual will be held at Can Batlló – Bloc 4; Carrer Constitució, 19, 08014 – Barcelona.

To reach the venue, it is necessary to take Metro Line 1 (red), from Marina station (next to ESMUC) to Mercat Nou station. The journey takes approximately 25 minutes and is direct.

Participation in the lila is open to those registered for the SIBE Congress, but prior registration will be required via a link that will soon be made available on the Museu de la Música’s website.

Access will be possible throughout the duration of the event.

Scheduled timetable:

  • 6:00 p.m. – Introduction to the ritual
  • 7:30 p.m. – Start of the Lila and first entry time
  • 9:30 p.m. - Second entry time
  • 11:30 p.m. - Third entry time
  • 2:00 a.m. – Estimated end time

On Friday, 7 November, at 4:30 p.m., as part of the panel organised by the Museu de la Música, ethnomusicologist and ESMUC professor Ilaria Sartori will give an introductory presentation on the Gnawa Lila, with the aim of explaining the structure and meaning of the ritual.
